Back to the Jim Kerr dancing mini-meme (1, 2) one last time. Having once been amused by my dancing, and then appalled by it, the Boy is now emulating it. Well, better than emulating it, inevitably, since he is closer in age to Kerr circa 1981. He can't quite do the ducking and weaving to dodge the beer cans, but when he puts one hand above his head and sways at the hips, you can tell this body is so much more supple, the energy in his limbs so much freer than mine.
I don't think I ever listened to this record very much. After I realised that there was no mileage in going forward from Simple Minds golden patch (1, 2, 3) I tried going back. (This would have been about 1984, '85.) There are moments, in I Travel, Changeling and Celebrate. I hadn't realised until I checked the Wikipedia entry that this is a compilation album. During these years Simple Minds were growing from a still-slightly-clumsy kitten to a sleek and powerful big cat, full of grace.
