… Or, more accurately for the pedantically-minded, "A Peel Session", since records show there were four Birthday Party Peel Sessions, and only the second is included on this 12" EP. I'm certain I didn't hear this session when it was first broadcast in 1981. But when it was the 20th session to be released on Strange Fruit, six years later, I was just starting to explore Nick Cave's solo stuff, and curious to hear what he was like before he was Nick Cave. So this was my first Birthday Party record; also my last.
If any fool were ever to commission my Alternative Eighties radio programme, we might open it with something from this record — just to show that 1981 wasn't all Soft Cell and Don't You Want Me?
