A one-off single from Alasdair — as with the Marches, Quicksteps, etc, it's not on his usual label or in his "usual" genre. This time the theme is early music, and specifically early Scottish/Celtic, an interest that runs through Alasdair's work with Concerto Caledonia (as on this album and this one coming soon) and his interest in work like Graysteil.
The A side is credited to Anon, "Mostly from Forbes' 'Songs and Fancies' (Aberdeen, 1682)". The B side (below) is by John Dowland from 1603. Concerto Caledonia don't actually play on these songs, though their leader, David McGuinness, gets an acknowledgement.
Alasdair Roberts - False Astronomy by Rif Mountain
I don't know what Ali's done to upset the people at Radio 3, but it seems bizarre that they've never played this record on Late Junction.
