Well, here we are again with another Word magazine cover CD, helping us keep a finger on the pulse of… what exactly? Many of the acts involved have over 20 years on the clock, a few have 35-40 years, and the Blind Boys of Alabama were formed in 1939. This, of course, does not disqualify them from having something relevant to say. Indeed it's the newer acts like Brent Cash adn Miracle Fortress who contribute the most dreary, tired mush on the CD.
So my question is not rhetorical or pointed; it's an open one, and admittedly half-baked and a tad unfocused, as is my wont. (In writing 1,843 blog posts in as many days, a few are, inevitably, going to be hurried and not that well-considered.)
KD Lang's piece sounds fine, in the Heart of Gold sense of the word. I'm not sure, but I think I like Adam Green. There's a sly mischief about him that I can't quite put my finger on. I'd have liked to have seen him play at the End of the Road festival last September, but I had to leave before he took the stage. Never heard of The Helio Sequence before, but their song has character.
