I've already written a valedictory entry for Unknown Public series, but here they are again — not with one of the additional volumes on my subscription that have yet to be issued, but with a complimentary compilation in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Network. So, instead of what I paid for and asked for, something I didn't and didn't. Appeasement of a kind.
Little here to detain us for long. The piece by La Banda is striking in its scale and energy. Two contributions by Dave Douglas, who I always want to like — because people in the know say he's great — but somehow find just "OK". Jocelyn Pook has a habit of appearing on compilations of contemporary music with her name next to the prettiest, most easy-to-love track. She's done it again here.
