Guy really rates Peter Bruntnell, as he confesses here. By my (google-assisted) tally on A Gig's a Gig, he's seen Bruntnell four time this year. People who exhibit such obsessive behaviour may look pathological at first sight — but we're harmless really (unlike adults who watch the same TV programmes every week, who are plainly a liability to themselves and others). Guy's evangelism has led me to check out Bruntnell's recordings before, but I've been unconvinced thus far, and remain so on the strength of his song on this CD.
Wreckless Eric's song is listenable, while Loudon Wainwright and Calexico are dependably interesting, though I wouldn't say inspiring. The closest thing to a discovery is like Geraint Watkins peaty whisky for the ears. A little research indicates that Nick Lowe's involved, and that figures.
Of course's there's a lot of dreck on the CD, too, but let's move on.
