It took me quite a while to figure out the name of this band. The cover of my CD clearly says "I am the World", yet when I searched for it, I got lots of hits for a band called "I am the World Trade Center", apparently with the same album, and very similar album art. There were also a few hits for "I am the World" too, though.
It all began to make sense when I say on the Rate Your Music page that the album was first released as "I am the World Trade Center" on 27 July 2001. Six weeks later they must have been feeling a little queasy about that, particularly when, according to Wikipedia, some accused them of choosing the name to cash in on the attack. Hence this 2002 release on Track and Field in the UK, where the band name was truncated. Only for the original name to be reinstated once the sensitivity had blown over.
How come I'm so unfamiliar with the band whose CD I have? I've never heard of them before. The CD is the final one of the six that arrived three years ago in the Track and Field "lucky dip" (1 and background story, 2, 3, 4, 5.
On first listen, I'm underwhelmed. Last.fm has the band in the same territory as Future Bible Heroes but I can't see anything like the same wit at work. It sounds more like a more quirky and less catchy version of Dubstar. Though this was my first listen, and not a particularly attentive one, so I may change my mind.
