I remember liking this at the time, but now it has that very dated mid- to late-eighties sound. It starts well, and comes back at the end. The synthetic reggae of Don't Lose Your Mind, in particular, and Full Nelson are a bit more muscular and woke me up. But it sags in the middle, even with the Scritti Politti cover, which I'd forgotten about. The whole thing has the same airbrushed Marxism Today polish that Scritti Politti made their stock in trade at the time. Yet the last time I saw Green from Scritti was at an Incredible String Band tribute gig, revising history once again to stress his roots in mystical folk music.
I'm not sticking to my subject, sorry. The entries over the last few days have left me needing a breather.
