At a rough count, 15 Wire Tappers have featured so far on Music Arcades. I started to wonder whether it was possible to pick up any trends from this sample. They appear here in random order, making trendspotting trickier.
However, I do have the opportunity to compare this early example of the series, released in November 1998, with the most recent one, issued in April this year and featured here just a couple of weeks ago.
Conclusion: no discernible development. These reports from the postmodern diaspora of fringe genres (do I sound like a Wire writer, yet?) are so committed to their micro-niches that they any attempt to position them within the broader sweep of a 'movement' would necessarily be post-hoc revisionism (how about now?).
D.A.F. make their second appearance here in a month (see the first) — a bit like finding two deutschmarks stuffed down the back of your sofa.
