I promised myself that I would break my election night habit last night, and go to bed early, knowing that you have to stay up very late to get a sense of the result. Instead I intended to get up early. But like every promise that involves an early night, I broke it. When I turned in a while after 3am — having spent 15 minutes calming a disturbed Boy — I was reassured that the Tories would be feeling less reassured. But I thought I was part of a big LibDeb wave. It turned out that impression was bogus: we ended up with a small ripple in the form of a 0.8% swing. Perhaps it's true that social media is an echo chamber for L/liberal loudmouths, then? I think I'll be sticking with the Greens in the future. After all, lots of my twitter chums were cheering their first MP!
As for In the Land of the Yahoos, it now sounds very 1987, very New York downtown, with plenty of the scenesters guesting on tracks. See also my previous post on Elliott Sharp.
