I heard that Trail of Dead were the new Sonic Youth, but after buying this album on the strength of that suggestion, I decided they weren't. Perhaps I might have felt differently had I been younger at the time. Even ten years ago I was beginning to realise that, while my life undoubtedly lacked several important ingredients, another new Sonic Youth wasn't one of them — especially not a new Sonic Youth that turned out not be one after all.
