Wire: A Bell is a Cup… Until it is Struck

I have no idea why I bought this CD — the only track of Wire's that I knew at the time was I am the Fly (via Mixed Peel), which was ten years old then. Nevertheless I liked it almost immediately. It's very likeable: nice tunes, lyrics that make no sense but are easy to sing along to. A pop album, in other words.

Here's me discussing it, inter alia, in gently adversarial tones with Mark Radcliffe about four and a half years ago.

The pithy way of expressing what I was trying to say at the end is that, while a cup may not function as a bell (on account of its lack of a donger), a bell can indeed function as a cup.
