I was saying that when we saw Rush in the early eighties, we wished we'd seen Rush in late seventies. But at school, the one tour Jeremy always wished he'd seen was Genesis's Lamb Lies Down shows in '75. Five years ago, he pretty much got his wish. J, Harvey and I went to see The Musical Box do their version of The Lamb at the Royal Albert Hall.
In 2000 The Musical Box purchased the rights (even though this was not actually required) from Peter Gabriel and Genesis to re-create The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Genesis helped The Musical Box greatly with this show staging by giving them copies of the 1,200 original slides. They also had access to the original slide operators who helped them put them back (more or less) into the correct order. In addition the band was granted full access to the original album master tapes so they could correctly reproduce the sound live on stage, even though Genesis themselves did not do this. The band's decision to exactly reproduce the sound of the original studio albums in a live environment has caused some controversy especially within the Genesis hard-core fan community, which has led to outright allegations of miming. The band themselves have always vigorously denied these allegations. [source]
I read somewhere that, while Cameron Crowe was in full flow on the commentary of the DVD version of Vanilla Sky, he decided on the spur of the moment to call up Tom Cruise on his mobile to check something with him, and this spontaneous conversation was included in full on the DVD. I thought, well, if it's good enough for Cameron and Tom, it's good enough for me and Jeremy. As I don't have the means to record a mobile phone conversation (how did they do that it it was unplanned, eh?), and because Jeremy is busier than Tom Cruise, I had to book in to talk to him on Skype during his lunch break at work:
