Mostly pretty grim indie dreck on this Music Week CD. This decade has been blessed by plenty of fantastic music on the margins, but the stuff that has held (what used to be) the centre ground is so unimaginative. If you'd played me Metric — who have over 23 million plays on Last.fm, though I've never been cursed by hearing of them until now — 25 years ago and told me this was the sound of 21st century popular music, I'd have laughed at the implausibility of it.
Ah, well. Things get better for about three tracks towards the end. Jaymay makes her second appearance in two days here — not quite as good as yesterday's song — while Richard Swift and Lavender Diamond are at least a tiny bit independent of indie orthodoxy.
I have been tracking down the Your Enemies Friends track "Arctic Ocean" for years. Is there a way I can get this one track from you? I can't find this CD for sale anywhere and it's the only place the song has been released. You can e-mail me at: [email protected]
