I know they're still a tiny minority, but there are thousands upon thousands of albums that meet these criteria: well reviewed & nominated for a prize; a pacifist in the loudness wars; above-average writing and playing.
I can't say a word against it, and I enjoyed listening to it again — just as I remember enjoying seeing Kathryn W play at Sheffield Uni around the time this came out. Actually it was better than I remembered, and I remembered it being fine.
But there are thousands more of the same calibre. Meanwhile there are hundreds of album that get me really excited just thinking about them. Then there are maybe ten artists (if we assume that I haven't yet heard six of them) in the world at the moment making work as good as Alasdair Roberts', who played a spellbinding show just ten minutes walk from here on Friday.
