This made its way onto my Amazon wishlist in 2004-ish thanks to Andy Kershaw's enthusiastic and persistent advocacy on his radio programme, currently in limbo.
It wasn't that I particularly liked the tracks that Andy played from the album, or Ernie Payne's session for the programme. It was just that Andy made such a thing about it that I figured he must be right and I must be missing something. Then I got given the album for my birthday, played it a couple of times, and realised that my taste and Andy's don't align that closely. I think I already knew that already — more collecting folly — but that's DJ charisma for you…
The Independent reported last Friday that Andy is finally scheduled to re-commence broadcasting (let's hope this isn't hyperactive wishful thinking) after two 'difficult' years for him.
Next time, I'll be sure to try and sample more carefully (the whole album is available for streaming on Last.fm), and prune my wishlist accordingly.
