It turns out I was wrong when I said last month, in connection with The Wire Tapper 10, that The Wire Tapper series might have reached an end, to be replaced by the quarterly Below the Radar download series. Eric tells me that the latter is as well as the former, not instead of. What I didn't realise was that record labels actually pay to have their recordings included on The Wire Tapper — to cover the costs of production and distribution, I guess. They don't pay to be included on Below the Radar, which is compiled by Wire editor Tony Herrington.
For whatever reason, this compilation does very little for me, by comparison with the last Wire-related CD, last Friday's Fjord Focus.
It was only through noticing that one of the tracks on the album, the improbably titled www.nonphilo.org by Un Caddie Renversé Dans L'Herbe, was among my 'loved tracks' on Last.fm that I realised that many years ago I ripped this CD into iTunes and thence onto my original iPod. I've only played those ripped tracks twice, the most recent occasion being in May 2005. Which makes you realise how much slurry there is lurking around in the depths of my iTunes library. And www.nonphilo.org didn't appeal today. Perhaps it's just my mood.
