The first time I heard Diddy Wah Diddy, it blew me away. This was in the mid-eighties — I can't remember whether it was before or after I got Trout Mask Replica — and I guess I'd never heard Howlin' Wolf or Smokestack Lightning, so this may have been my first exposure to gruff stomping blues. I loved it so much that, a decade ago, it was one of the first tracks I put down on the wedding reception playlist that never got played (there was no wedding, as it turned out).
The other four tracks are nothing special, but Diddy was worth the £4.49 from Our Price, Woking, on its own.
