See Tehillim. Everything I said there about the mid-'80s being my least favourite phase of Reich's work still pretty much holds. I can't remember very much about the performance of The Desert Music that we went to two and a half years ago, except that it wasn't very memorable. The Cave was much better. I think Reich's music is best when harnessed to one of his many very original concepts (The Cave, Different Trains and the early 'process' works like Drumming); less compelling when he adapts others' work — The Desert Music is based around some poems by William Carlos Williams (a very Reichian name).
