Do you have albums that you think you like, but which you never find yourself picking off the shelf to play? Never quite in the mood for it. Succour falls into that category for me.
I can't remember how I arrived at Seefeel. Maybe it was Peel, maybe it was The Wire. But it was in those mid-nineties when Warp were slowly sweeping all before them.
Anyway, I am deeply suspicious of my own motives and attitudes, so I thought maybe this whole think-you-like-it-but-never-play-it malarkey might be a cover for a bit of a pose — in other words, it's the kind of music that I'd like other people to think I like.
But, no, I really do like it. It's in the same autistic-minimalist idiom as Panasonic, but I'm not using "autistic" pejoratively there, so don't jump down my throat. However, that does mean that the idea of listening to it is a little intimidating — even though the actual experience is not — so that may explain my hesitancy. Once again: my loss.
