I think I heard a couple of the singles from this album on the radio — Not So Manic Now and Stars — and thought I discerned an inkling of something more than just a decent tune, a thoughtful arrangement and a quirky lyric (sample: "if the man you've grown to be / is more Morrison than Morrissey"; I guess she means Van rather than Jim?). Or perhaps I was just in the mood for a a decent tune, a thoughtful arrangement and a quirky lyric. Anyway, I bought the album, played it a few times (I think it may have come on our Scottish holiday in '97), and decided there was only an inkling, and an inkling wasn't enough. So I bracketed it with the likes of Life's Hard and Then You Die, fellow purveyors of decent tunes, thoughtful arrangements and quirky lyrics, and it became shelfware.
