And, no, I didn't get this just because I have to have to have everything by Neil Young. There are a few of his recent releases that I don't have yet — they'll get cheaper. Like this one did. I got it two years after it was released for £3, because I only had vinyl versions of 13 of the 14 tracks, so this seemed like a cost effective means to get more convenient copies. It's now £29.99 for a used copy on Amazon, or £70.92 for a new one…
What a totally incoherent collection, though — only useful as a resource for ripping to MP3 and re-sequencing in different playlists. Bizarrely, tracks from Neil's three most stylistically dissimilar albums rub shoulders with each other. These are the three albums that culminated with Geffen Records suing Neil for producing material that was "unrepresentative of Neil Young". The final two albums he gave them, Landing on Water and Life, were arguably more representative, but Geffen/Universal selected only one track from them. Hmmm, it's almost as though this CD was compiled as evidence for the prosecution.
