It turns out I have more Lee Perry compilations than even I'd realised — one, two, three, four!
What's puzzling is that, despite having these for a decade or two, it took a radio documentary about Perry for me to discover the astonishing Heart of the Congos album, which must surely be his finest hour. I downloaded it from emusic, and can't get enough of it.
There's a clear explanation of why the Congos aren't on this particular collection, however, since it dates from 1970-73, before Perry set up the Black Ark, and three years before Heart of the Congos.
My copy is vinyl, so I can't tell whether the surface noise and occasional tics are down to my pressing or the original sources from which the album has been compiled. I suspect the latter.
