The nature of these CDs is that you start them off and whenever an interesting or arresting tracks comes along, you pick up the sleeve to check what it is (otherwise it passes back into the ether, whence it came, unmarked and still unknown). So Track 12 kicks off, and there's throat singing, there's a weird mountain horn, there's unusual percussion; and I lift the sleeve to see who these thieving cultural tourists are. The Monastery of Gyütö, Tibet — ah, I bid you Good Afternoon, gentlemen.
My two favourite tracks are side by side: a distinctly Cluster-like piece by Korean artist Jin Hi Kim (김진희). Though of course it would be more just to say that Cluster are South-East-Asia-like. The piece is called Ek for JC and I'd like to think the JC is John Cage, but I'm only guessing. Emusic has one of her albums and I'll check that out when I have some more credit there.
The other is by Kim Hiorthøy, whose name is familiar, but I can't remember hearing his stuff before. His track sounds like it's being performed on adjusted or "prepared" instruments, again like John Cage. Anyway, he's got plenty of stuff on emusic, so I'll be check that out too.
