The second compilation in the Atlantic Waves series this month, following the 2007 issue. I'm still a bit baffled by what ties these selections, and the festivals they accompany, together. The closest thing I can find to a statement of intent is "dedicated to bringing contemporary Portuguese music to a British audience" from the first (2001) Atlantic Waves festival. That only begs the question of why Portuguese music is very much in the minority on these CDs.
I know what your thinking. I should loosen up. You're right. Were it not for this 'free' CD, it wouldn't be quite so easy to explore recordings by the likes of Sainkho Namtchylak, Thomas Köner, Akira Rabelais, Philip Jeck, Oren Ambarchi and Max Eastley. The Max Eastley piece is from his Cape Farewell visit, up by the North Pole, but sadly it doesn't include any of the underwater/underice recordings that I believe he did.
I nearly forgot: it's three years today — winter solstice — since Music Arcades' first entry. One thousand and ninety posts so far. Plenty still to come, if I stay the course.
