So much music that I could have bought and didn't. Plenty that I bought instead, for reasons that now seem fleeting… Let me try and reconstruct those behind this purchase.
This CD still has its price label "Freebird Records £7.99". I know that's not Freebird Records the Dutch record label, so Google's next suggestion is Freebird Records the shop in Dublin. Or does it look like this? I can't remember. But I can remember a few afternoons mooching around Dublin shops in 1996 and 1997, visiting M and/or working on dodgy EC-funded projects with Paul at the Sound Training Centre. Those visits felt a bit like holidays, so buying a CD was like a little memento. I guess I knew of Horace Andy through his work with Massive Attack, though I was by no means an aficionado of theirs.
It's got one of those "Promotional Copy not for sale" stickers on the back. It's also very pleasant to listen to.
