I bought this because you told me it was the best Rolling Stones album. You were not wrong. There's one other that I enjoy more, but you would tell me that one was cheating, and you'd be right.
It was the first one I bought a decade or so after my cassette version of Some Girls went astray. It took me a while to acquire the taste, but I'm glad I did.
Nowadays it sounds like pure essence of Stones. That's to say: dirty, bluesy, instinctive and intuitive, exactly the kind of music that might have been found written on the wall of a cave in southwestern France 16,000 years ago.
