This is so new, I found it still sitting on the top of my hi-fi, albeit under two or three other records, and evidently I hadn't got around to putting it away in the cupboard yet. OK, so seven months isn't all that new, but that's how long it takes me to process my vinyl in-tray.
Back in March, the 26th to be precise, my friend Claire (her album came out three weeks ago: buy it on iTunes) invited me to the launch of this single at Boogaloo on the Archway Road. Once there she introduced me to one of the guys running the label, who asked me quite directly if I was going to buy the single. Mine is Number 186 out of 300 — the single sold out some time ago according to Mr David Viner's Facebook page — and it's signed by him.
This wasn't my first Viner experience: I'd seen him supporting Pere Ubu and Spiritualised four years ago. But this was much better. His producer, Ed Harcourt, got up to play on a few songs; so did someone else I recognised at the time, but can't recall now…
The happy ending is that it's a rather fine single.
