I used to hear Pavement on John Peel's show in the 1990s, and I never liked them much. I read people raving about them online and in print, and I couldn't see what they were on about.
So I don't really know why I bought this CD. It can't have just been that it was part of a "3 for £10" promotion. It might have been a result of the Stephin Merritt quote about Pavement that I referenced before (original source).
Now if you're thinking that such a tangential recommendation is no reason to buy a CD, obviously you're right. My friend, my compass was still a little haywire in 2000, and I was swinging from one dangerous obsession to another, much safer, one with the works and influences of Stephin Merritt.
Of course, that may not be the reason I bought Terror Twilight, but, whatever… I'm still back where I started, not liking it much.

*You* have a compass?

Actually I do (though it's lost, probably in the loft somewhere). But I was referring to my emotional compass.
