Amid the much-talked-about resurgence of vinyl, one sub-format that hasn't been revived much is the 12" single. Which is strange when the same talkers are going on about the death of the album and the scope for artists to release smaller instalments of music — like, well, a 12" single or EP. Oh bugger, repeating myself again.
Here are three tracks released in April 1984 representing the Cocteau Twins' work-in-progress from the first months of that year. It catches them in the transition from bloody good to completely astonishing. I stand to be corrected, but I think this may be Simon Raymonde's first appearance on a Cocteaus release.
