I bought this in Fopp in 1998, in the days before all their deep catalogue albums were marked down to a fiver, because I wanted to hear studio version of Listen to the Lion. Notwithstanding how good Jackie Wilson Said is, Lion is still the heart of the album. When I listened to it late on Saturday afternoon, I turned the light off so I could give fuller attention to the music. Sadly this had the opposite effect to the intended one, as the dark led me to drift into sleep: do you ever get that effect where you're on the edge of consciousness and the lyrics get mashed up with odd snippets of dreams? Anyway, I had to put it on again at the end.
This is one of the few Van albums that I can't remember you telling me I had to own. That's not to say it didn't happen.
