I'm beyond being upset about this now, but I'm still mystified. How can I go over two years with only one half-lost CD, and then have three go missing in the space of just over two weeks?
But I've realised I missed a trick with Trailer Park and Mr Jack, since both are available to play in full on-demand at Last.fm (in fact, the latter is a free download). The Catnap is also there in all its glory, and I've listened to it a couple of times. It's a pretty kind of glitchy electronic pop that's enjoyable to listen to, but feels overshadowed by Camille's most recent album.
Did you see the comment on yesterday's post extolling the virtues of imeem over Last.fm? I suspect it's spam. imeem has always smelt a bit funny to me: the kind of company that will do whatever it takes to get ahead, and certainly wouldn't have any scruples about paying people to post comments on blogs. So I wonder if this post will also attract a comment praising imeem (even though I can't find any of Margo's music there)? What are the rules of engagement for comment spammers: are you discouraged from posting a comment where the context would make it really obvious that it was spam, or, as a spammer, can you claim your payment (50 cents a pop?) for any comment that is successfully posted, no matter what the context? If any spammers — sorry, "online street teams" — read this, I'd be very interested in your views.
Back to The Catnap. I got this album on 7 October 2003, when Margo were supporting Damon & Naomi at the Water Rats. Although Margo are described as a band, my memory is of a small woman standing at a keyboard (who I assumed was Margo) and a single sidekick in the background. Although the album was re-released in 2003 on a different label, with different cover, I'm fairly sure I got the original release on Peter I'm Flying records, because a label name like that kind of sticks in the mind.
I wonder if, up in the loft, there's a box of books or something, into which I hastily chucked a handful of CDs when we moved. Seems unlikely. Not really my style, as you can probably tell.
Update, 4 May 2008: mystery solved — I was looking for a CD, and that was my mistake. Because I have this on vinyl, and as I thought it's the Peter I'm Flying release.
