The third of the six "lucky dip" CDs I bought from the Track & Field Organisation, with one hit and one miss so far. So it's off with the cellophane wrapping again, and this is… a borderline hit on first listening. Love that poppy organ sound.
Again I'm listening in iTunes with Last.fm feeding me context as soon as the first track starts, in the shape of this band bio which seems to have been written by one of the prime movers in the band (well, self-described prime movers). I don't think I've ever come across Kicker before, but I've definitely seen bands who share members with them: specifically, Comet Gain (on the bill at a couple of Track and Field gigs at the Water Rats) and The Eighteenth Day of May.
On second listen, I still like it, though imagine it might sound better as five 45s than in album form. It's definitely firmly in indie territory, reminding me, variously of Felt, the Aislers Set and many other jingly-janglers.
