Ah, a sampler that didn't come stuck to the front of a magazine: I actually paid for it. This was at the Laura Cantrell gig at The Pheasant in 2001.
Laura was signed to Shoeshine for her first couple of albums, and in those days, before she gave up her Wall Street day job, her route in the UK was via this branch of the Scottish Country and Western scene, often playing tours with a pick-up band.
This CD shows the depth and quality of Shoeshine's roster, and how dreched they are in the American idiom. There's a fantastic song called Ava Gardner Blues by Ben Vaughn.
