I got this from Fopp following its inclusion as a 'must have' on Stuart Maconie's Critical List. D always thought I took that programme much too seriously, and in hindsight it is almost scary how much authority I invested in it. D chastised me for recording most of the programmes on mini-disk, and, sure enough, I now have a lot of disks that remain unlistened-to five or six years on.
But radio was still really important in those pre-Wikipedia, pre-Last.fm days.
Anyway, it's clear this is a classic of old-school recording and production virtues. And equally clear that Dusty Springfield albums aren't the kind that I would ever dig out unless prompted to do so by some ruse or other.
I remember being slightly crestfallen a few months after I got this, going round to te's house with D where he was playing this album — but he'd got the extended version with extra tracks, and probably re-re-mastered, and maybe cheaper than my copy as well. My life is littered with petty jealousies.
