Ah, another of these covermount compilations; the fifth in 19 days. For the first time (that I can remember, and I don't trust my memory) I'm feeling a little jaundiced by this exercise: must I really try and absorb another jumble of tracks of side projects and solo projects from New Order and The Smiths, footnotes to footnotes all of them.
In his collecting of postcards, Tom Phillips notes that "Postcard Reality has a higher incidence of red cards and a higher incidence of people in bright red or (tricromatic-type) blue clothes than 'real life'". Covermount reality has a higher incidence of alt.country (represented here by Willard Grant Conspiracy, Grand Drive, The Arlenes, Slobberbone (!) and arguably Buffalo Tom) than 'real life'. In fact some of these bands only exist for me on covermount CDs.
Even the Dexys Midnight Runners track sounded ordinary.
