The thing I remember about buying this record (apart from it being in WH Smiths on Commercial Way in Woking) is believing that it was the first album I had that was released before I was born. With hindsight that distinction actually belongs to Bringing It All Back Home, which I had bought previously, but I didn't know then in which month of 1965 that came out.
Guy and Annie's 12-year-old son is already an authority on the Small Faces, who were at their best almost 30 years before he was born. That's the equivalent of me being a fan of the Carter Family or Irving Berlin, which I kind of am now. But when I was 12? Shirley Bassey, Abba, and Kate Bush. Should I blame my parents?
Back to Another Side of…, I've never liked it much I'm afraid. Most of the songs on Side 1 would be much improved if they ended after one verse. All I Really Want To Do is a case in point. It's like singing a shopping list in negative. There are three songs I do like: To Ramona, My Back Pages and It Ain't Me, Babe (a favourite of your mother's, I think you said — see, I should blame my parents). But I don't much like the way they are performed here.
Sorry to knock your self-confidence, Bob!
