The price label on this says DM 20.90 from the Electrola Musikhaus, so I must have bought it while I was living in Munich at the start of 1983. Lord knows how I first heard of Popol Vuh: either through the NME or from the liner notes in some Tangerine Dream boxed set! The purchase would have also been reinforced by the fact that it's on Klaus Schulze's record label (Robert Schröder's album was that label's first release; this is its seventh).
The music is at one level very simple: one guitar, a piano and some cymbal-heavy percussion. Then there's the choir, who do a lot of chanting. I'm listening to more devotional music again these days, but at the time I felt there was too much sturm und drang involved in this album, and I made a mental note only to buy 1970s vintage Popol Vuh in the future.
