As I was listening to this I wondered why it is that I took readily to Roedelius and similar electronic music in the '80s, but have never made quite the same connection with electronic music from the '90s onwards. It could be that I spent less time listening to each new album as I got more of them — or could it be that my ears were less open after my mid-20s?
The last piece on this EP, Zoetrope, is very Roedelius-esque in its vaguely oriental feel and its not-going-anywhere development. I like Amo Bishop Roden, too, and it's worth listening very carefully so that you don't miss the changing texture of the bass on the right speaker.
Among the acts that emerged from '90s Warp electronica, Boards of Canada seem to be ageing better than most, including The Black Dog. The only way to answer my question is to listen to them some more.
