I'd known about Biosphere for some time in 2001 when I bought this CD, but with all the albums he'd produced, how to know where to start? And should I start at all, when all I knew was what I'd read. So it might have been a play and a recommendation on Mixing It (as with The Black Dog) that led me to get this particular one, or it might have been an especially good review in The Wire. Or it might have been that my money was burning a hole in my pocket and I just hadn't bought enough CDs at the time…
But I listened to it once or twice at the time and then put it to one side because there wasn't enough that I heard to catch my interest. I listened twice again today, and felt the same way. As you've probably spotted, I listen to a lot of these ambient soundscapes. They have the advantage that you can play them while working and they take just as much attention as you have to spare. There are a few artists that stand out. Recently via Last.fm and eMusic, I've discovered the likes of Stars of the Lid and 1 Mile North. I'd turn to them before I put this CD on again.
