In late summer 2005 I went up to Glasgow for what turned out to be the last MusicWorks convention. On balance, it was probably a bit of a waste of time for me (partly because it hadn't attracted many other people). But sometimes you have to try these things to find out what is and isn't a waste of time. And sometimes you can't evaluate fully until some years afterwards.
Included in the delegate pack was a copy of this issue of Is This Music? magazine, which includes a free CDR. Today is the first time I've listened to it. I'd heard of the Delgados before, and the Trash Can Sinatras, but the tracks I most like are by The Sky at Night and, particularly, Daniel Patrick Quinn — a great piece of droney, repetitive, folk music.
