I wasn't immediately taken in by Scritti Politti, but I got this sometime in the late '80s and enjoyed it without ever loving it. Now that he's just put out a new album
it casts a light back on the old ones. I haven't heard the whole of the new album, but what I have heard doesn't move forward a long way. And the failure to innovate in the present makes the past innovation seem more slight.
Mind you, Miles Davis did see fit to record a version of Perfect Way, and if I'd ever done anything that Miles had showed an interest in, I'd be dining out on it for the rest of my life. No question.
