I got this because it was £3 in Fopp (it was part of the 24-CDs-for-£35 that I've mentioned before), and because I thought I couldn't go wrong even if it was only quarter as good as Ray of Light.
In fact, it is about a quarter as good as Ray of Light, and I've only given it two or three listens in the two years I've had it. A lot of the lyrics seem to deal in a ham-fisted way with the state of the world and with Madonna's relationships with her family and upbringing. I don't really give a toss about the real Madonna; I'm much more interested in the fantasist who impersonates odd characters like Dita Parlo.
