I met one of the guys who runs Staubgold at the end of last year at a gig near here that my friend Eric was promoting. Eric knows them well, I think. He speaks four languages and is always heading off to festivals around the world. I don't believe he's rich, and I don't believe the promoting he does will ever make him rich. It's a hobby that he loves — what Robert Fripp calls a "conviction company", something that you do because it should be done.
I don't know Staubgold very well at all. This CD came with The Wire five years ago. There are two artists on this label compilation that I'd heard of previously: To Rococo Rot and Alexander Balanescu. In fact the Alexander Balanescu track crops up from time to time on my Last.fm station. You can preview it and six other tracks from the album via Last.fm. Unfortunately that selection of tracks doesn't include the one by Rafael Toral, which is my favourite today.
