This CD came out at the start of this year, and it's another of those I won as a prize on Gideon Coe's Paintbox Jury (see the full story of paintbox jury).
It's probably not the kind of thing I would have bought of my own accord, but I'm glad to have it — and probably prefer it to the kind of power pop that Jenny Lewis does with Rilo Kiley.
Now if I play this CD on iTunes, the lists of similar artists on Last.fm and of recommended artists on MyStrands are all the usual indie-rock suspects. But it sounds fresher than that to me, thanks particularly to the Watson Twins — more rootsy, like Gillian Welch, or even The Roches.
Some of the songs are catchy as hell, and so far I particularly like Rise up with fists!!! and the title track.
