I think I got this around the time it came out in 1987, around the same time as Spillane and before I got The Big Gundown. I was surprised at how different this was from Spillane. At least superficially, it sounds like fairly 'straight' jazz, based as it is on lesser known bebop composers from the fifties. One of the things that stands out is the lack of percussion.
I saw Zorn and Lewis play at the Barbican a few months ago, doing a tribute to Derek Bailey. Although the gig had its moments, the overall feeling was strangely lacklustre.
