Before I put this on, I was expecting it to go into my top 50. I still like it a great deal, but not as much as I think I used to.
It came out when we were living in Cosin Court. Cocteau Twins EPs were regular occurrences then, appetisers between LPs, and I remember John Peel playing each track from this, and I probably recorded them from the radio a few weeks before I bought the EP. At the time it felt that some of the songs here — specifically Aikea-Guinea and Kookaburra — were a step forward even from the sublime Treasure.
The singing is extraordinary, the way the rrr's trill in Kookaburra, and the different vocal tracks are layered over each other. It's the mechanical drum sound that now seems a little dated to me.
The cover has almost no details on it — not even the name of the band. There are the four song titles on the front, and on the back there's the catalogue number and a credit for the sleeve design. There is now some more information on the official discography.
