Ah, New Order, of course I love them, though I've never been what you could call a fan. I never rushed out to buy one of their albums when it came it out. I just waited for this 'best of' compilation, in fact. There are several songs here that capture my imagination at different times, though Vanishing Point is the most reliable one for getting me going. Mostly, though, it's just the overall sound of the music that appeals. It has an exuberance I missed at first. That's the one thing I remember about Paul Morley's otherwise fairly silly sleevenotes: the bit where he says that the first line of the first song on this album sums up the appeal of listening to it. "I feel so extraordinary…"
