In the late '80s, the NME always used to bracket Hüsker Dü in with Sonic Youth and people like Dinosaur Jr, but I don't think John Peel played them very often, so although I had one song of theirs on a single (and they also appear on A Diamond Hidden in the Mouth of a Corpse), I wasn't sure what they sounded like. After a couple of years I gave in and paid £8.99 for this double album at Record Collector.
I never liked it that much at the time. There's very little sense of light and shade in the songs, very little space. I played it again today, and didn't like it much all over again. Could You Be The One? stood out a bit, but it was the only one that did. In fact I didn't get past Side 3 of the album, so certain was I that Side 4 would just be more of the same.

Oh next time you're going to try one album by a band ask a fan first! This is the weakest Husker Du album. And to be fair they are never a consistantly great album band - every album has weak spots.
But there is nothing on this release that really stands out. Every other album (expect maybe the predecessor to this one) has a couple of incredible tracks on it. The title track from New Day Rising, most of the Metal Circus EP, The first side of Zen Arcade and a fair chunk of Flip Your Wig...

Yes, I should have asked a fan. I would have done if I'd known one. Thanks for the steer. I may check out some of your suggestions via Last.fm or iTunes.
