This is a CD-ROM. Remember them? Or were you blinking at the moment in the mid '90s when multimedia CD-ROMs were 'the Future'? My CD-ROMs will still play, just, on my Mac, but when I next upgrade I expect they will become dead media.
Either way, it's pretty academic in the case of Eve, since, although I've got the nice big cardboard box it came in, the CD-ROM itself isn't in it.
I remember a few frustrating hours with it. Frustrating, firstly, because the designers at Real World Multimedia favoured an interaction style that required active exploration of the interface. Sometimes they took this style to extremes and it seemed almost impossible to find the thing to click to make the next thing happen. Frustrating, secondly, because Eve is built like a game — as well as a delivery medium for visual and sonic arts — and I've never really got on with games. Can't see the point.
Real World Multimedia has now moved onto DVDs. I haven't seen them, but I'm guessing they're less intensely interactive. The CD-ROMs are no longer available, as far as I can tell. Here's the remaining trace of Eve on the web.
[Update, thanks to Paula (see comments below), here's an embed of the first part of the Eve walkthrough.]
I loved Eve - it was on loan from a shop I was then asociated with. This last year I have been wishing I had bought a copy and would if I could track one down but sadly you say - "no longer available" if you hear otherwise please would you take the time to email me? We are both big Peter Gabriel fans in this house and recently watched an interesting special on him during his Genesis years.

Thank you, Paula. That brings back memories. I took me AGES to get that sperm to fertilise the egg on the first screen. Just like real life - well, kinda. The furthest I ever got was -- I think -- the point about four minutes into the walkthrough.
